FAQs
Have Questions? We Have Answers.
At what interval should I change the oil in my car?
You should follow the interval recommended in your owner’s manual. As a general rule, change the oil every 5,000 km or every six months, whichever comes first.
What does the “W” mean in 15W-40?
The “W” stands for winter and indicates the oil’s ability to flow in cold temperatures.
Is Master Oil equal in quality to oils sold by multinational companies?
Yes.
What does oil do?
Oil reduces friction between metal engine parts by forming a thin protective film. This prevents metal-to-metal contact, reduces heat and wear, and enhances engine reliability and performance over time.
Which oil do I need for my car?
Using the correct oil improves performance, fuel efficiency, and engine life. Always follow your manufacturer’s specifications for viscosity and standards. The wrong oil can cause damage and increase costs. Contact Master Oil for guidance.
What does the ‘viscosity’ of an oil mean?
Viscosity refers to an oil’s thickness or resistance to flow. Thicker oils (like honey) flow slower; thinner ones (like water) flow faster. Oil must be thin enough to circulate when cold and thick enough to protect when hot. Viscosity modifiers help maintain this balance.
What are performance additives?
Additives enhance oil performance by protecting and cleaning the engine. They include:
- Detergents: Clean and neutralize acids
- Dispersants: Prevent sludge buildup
- Anti-wear agents: Protect engine parts
- Antioxidants: Slow oil breakdown
- Friction modifiers: Improve fuel economy
- Anti-rust agents: Prevent corrosion
What is multi-grade oil?
Multi-grade oil, like 20W-50, performs in both hot and cold temperatures thanks to special polymers. This eliminates the need to switch oils seasonally. The first number (e.g. 20W) shows cold viscosity; the second (e.g. 50) shows hot viscosity.
Do I need different engine oil for diesel and petrol engines?
In older engines, yes—diesel oils have higher detergency. In newer models, many oils are suitable for both. Always check your vehicle’s manual.
Does motor oil expire?
Master Oil has no set expiration.
Does motor oil wear out, or just get dirty?
Oil degrades over time as additives break down and contaminants build up. Regular oil changes are essential.
Are conventional motor oils unprocessed?
No. Conventional oils are refined from crude oil and blended with additives.
Can I use motor oil in a manual transmission?
Only if specified in your owner’s manual. Otherwise, use the recommended transmission fluid.
Are all motor oil brands the same?
No. Base oil quality and additive blends vary between brands. Master Oil uses imported Group II base oils for extended performance and longer oil life.
Is switching oil brands harmful?
No, as long as you follow your vehicle’s oil specification (API and viscosity). All brands must meet industry standards.
Should I change the oil filter with every oil change?
Yes. A new filter ensures trapped contaminants don’t re-enter your engine.
Is bulk oil lower quality than bottled oil?
Not with Master Oil. Our bulk and bottled oils are the same high quality—only the packaging differs.
Can motor oil improve horsepower?
Yes. Friction-reducing additives can enhance performance slightly.
What are “severe” driving conditions?
Stop-and-go traffic, idling, towing, short trips, and extreme weather.
If I don’t drive in severe conditions, can I extend oil change intervals?
Yes
Should I let my car idle to warm up?
Yes, in cold weather. Idling for 2–3 minutes helps oil circulate and lubricate the engine.
If my manual says API SF oil, can I use API SM?
Yes. SM oils exceed the performance of older categories like SF and are fully compatible with older engines.
Does the wrong oil cause dipstick rust?
No. Rust usually indicates poor maintenance or extreme conditions. Quality oils help protect against rust, but regular oil changes are key.
Is dark motor oil a sign it needs changing?
Using the correct oil improves performance, fuel efficiency, and engine
Not necessarily. Color isn’t a reliable indicator. Follow the service interval in your owner’s manual.
Viscosity refers to an oil’s thickness or resistance to flow. Thicker oils (like honey) flow
If oil turns dark quickly, is it bad?
No.
Is thicker oil better for engine life?
Not always. Modern engines are designed for thinner oils, which reduce friction, improve fuel economy, and protect during cold starts. Always use the viscosity recommended by your vehicle’s manufacturer.
